Rylie's wish to go to Disney World

Make-A-Wish provided my daughter and family a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It was a week of family time and memories where we didn't have to go for treatment or appointments. It was also an opportunity for our daughter, Rylie, to make decisions related to her wish. Often during these journeys, we forget these kids don't get a say in their treatment plans or the medications they have to take. With Rylie planning her wish, she got to be in charge of her own life.

When I look back on the wish experience, honestly, we cherish the whole trip to Florida and Disney World as one memory. Every day was memorable and unique. Rylie would probably tell you riding Slinky Dog Dash eight times in a row was her highlight. But from Disney World, to SeaWorld, to staying at Give Kids The World, it was an experience we will never forget.

The wish also supported our family through the medical journey by giving us an opportunity to take a break from everyday life. Nothing else mattered during her wish. It gave all of us a chance to focus on making memories together, and it gave Rylie something to look forward to.

That's why I think people should support Make-A-Wish. Whether it's volunteering time or services or donating financially, the impact is everlasting. You are truly providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a child and their family. In many cases, tomorrow isn't promised for a number of these children, so sometimes time is crucial.
