Jad's wish grants independence

Like most 12-year-olds, Jad loves being outside, spending time with his sister and friends, and playing on his Xbox.

With a rare progressive neurologic condition, Jad’s ability to walk has decreased over time. Now a wheelchair user, he’s had to learn how to interact with a predominantly standing world.

Jad worried about moving up to middle school where he’d need to be able to navigate hallways and move between classrooms all the time—and how to experience the joy of mingling with friends.

Jad wanted more than anything to find a way to stand up and move more easily through the world.

After several failed attempts to get a stand-up wheelchair through insurance, Jad became very discouraged.

That’s about the time that Jad learned he qualified to receive a wish.

When he first wished for a stand-up wheelchair, he didn’t want to get his hopes up.

He didn’t want to let himself daydream about interacting with his friends from their height… and navigating middle school on his own.

He didn’t want to be disappointed… again.

Thanks to the dedication of his wish-granting team and the generosity of the Permobil Foundation, Jad’s wish came true. Jad now has his own custom-fit stand-up wheelchair. And, Ashley Davis, Executive Director of the Permobil Foundation is thrilled that they could help.

Working for Permobil…I have been able to hear and see so many stories on how we have impacted lives and brought mobility, hope and independence to their lives,” she said. “We know that by providing a customized chair for Jad he will be able to live a more normal life with fewer limitations that will help him reach his dreams.”

In the midst of a global pandemic and the challenges of a progressive medical condition, Jad’s wish offered him hope.

And the wish continues to provide hope every single day

“This wish grants Jad independence. When he goes outside, he puts it on stand-up mode. It makes him fit in, seeing the world through everyone’s view.”

Wishes can be healing and grant renewed joy and purpose to children with critical illnesses.

“This wish makes his daily life better,” added Souad. “He feels more confident and believes in life more than he did before. This really helped him a lot. It’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to Jad.
