10-year-old Ava is a fighter. Ava was born with a genetic disorder and at 6-years-old, was diagnosed with leukemia. For years, the focus has been on treatment, hospital stays, and doctor’s visits. On the day her wish for a room remodel came true, she got to just be a little girl who loves playing with baby dolls and games with her brothers and sisters.
Ava worked with a decorator to design her “sanctuary,” a pink and grey room, complete with a beautiful new closet. When the community learned about her heartfelt wish, family, friends, neighbors and even the local police and fire department, came out for a wish parade past her house. As Ava watched with her family from her front yard, she beamed with pride.
Ava’s wish brought her joy and so much more-hope for her future. Her wish marked the end of her battle with leukemia and the beginning a new adventure.
