Where Compassion and Tech “Power Up” Kids
40th Anniversary Tribute: Microsoft is a "Top 4" In-Kind Supporter
In the early 1990s, wish kids wanted what adults did: the best computer. Microsoft was local, so a blossoming partnership began. Kids fighting illness found distraction in technology, so they wished for a personalized computer or to meet company leaders.
While on-campus meet-and-greets were vastly different experiences from receiving a customized computer, Microsoft wishes left kids smiling and looking to a brighter future.
Microsoft wishes evolved into immersive, hands-on experiences created by teams across Xbox Game Studios, 343 Industries, Mojang, Forza and other Microsoft groups. These studio days provided wish kids with access, mentorship and the chance to explore the worlds they loved.
Over the decades, Microsoft’s commitment expanded into event sponsorships, direct financial gifts, employee giving and matching and volunteerism. Employees have served as wish granters, event volunteers and mission champions within their workplace, while Microsoft employees have strengthened the partnership through volunteer leadership on our Board, ensuring Microsoft’s ongoing support.
Today, Microsoft stands as one of our top local in-kind supporters, contributing nearly $625,000 cumulatively in donated technology and experiences. Their generosity continues to open doors for wish kids, empowering them to learn, create and dream big – with their eyes set on the future of technology; a future we’re all seeing grow quickly.
Perhaps a wish kid will be the next Bill Gates. After all, one kid who wished to meet him told him that was his dream.
