40 Years of Wishes

Jordyn’s wish to go to Walt Disney World

Jordyn’s Wish: A Lifetime of Giving Back

Twenty-three years ago, at just 7 years old, Jordyn was diagnosed with cancer. But today, at 31, she doesn’t let that diagnosis define her childhood.

“When I look back on my childhood, yes, cancer was a part of my story but not my whole story.”

One of the brightest chapters began when Jordyn’s mom learned about Make-A-Wish. When Wish Granters visited their home and encouraged her to dream about what was possible, Jordyn already knew her answer: “It was always going to be Disney.”

As a kid who loved roller coasters, Walt Disney World was the perfect wish. But the experience became much more than a trip. It gave Jordyn something joyful to look forward to during a difficult time and the chance to simply be a kid again.

That feeling stayed with her long after she returned home. Jordyn and her family became involved with Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, even helping launch the very first Lemonade for Wishes stand. She later became an early member of the chapter's Alumni Committee, raising funds and helping other wish kids experience the same hope and joy she had been given.

“To me, I always wanted to give back so other kids could experience what I experienced.”

More than two decades later, Jordyn’s connection to Make-A-Wish remains strong. As she reflects on 40 Years of Wishes, she thinks not only about the children whose wishes have come true, but also about the countless people who make each one possible.

For Jordyn, that is the true beauty of a wish: giving a child hope, joy, something to look forward to, and a moment to feel like a kid again.

Today, Jordyn is a CPA and proud wife and mom. Her Disney wish may have lasted only a few days, but its impact has stayed with her for more than two decades, inspiring a lifetime of gratitude, connection, community and giving back.

I always wanted to give back so other kids could experience what I experienced.
