Kurt R. Weiss Scholarship

Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia is pleased to announce that we will be awarding the Kurt R. Weiss Scholarship for Wish Kids again this year. These scholarships are offered to wish kids who are seniors in high school and intend to pursue post-secondary education. The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Kurt Weiss, a wish alum who overcame osteosarcoma and is now an orthopedic oncologist with UPMC. Generous donors of Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia fund the scholarships.
Awards are for first year of post-secondary education only and are not renewable. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be:
- A wish kid who has received a wish from Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia;
- A graduating senior and first-time applicant;
- Planning to enroll during the 2025-2026 academic school year in a course of study at a college, university or vocational/technical school.
Application Requirements:
The applicant must submit a senior or current picture and a picture from their wish (if available).
The scholarship committee will consider financial need, academic excellence and extracurricular service. Applicants will also be asked to explain their financial need and write about their personal history, extracurricular service, intended educational pursuits and plans for the future. There are three scholarship award levels: The Highest Honor, High Honor and Honorable Mentions. Scholarship amounts will be based on how many applicants we have this year and the number of scholarship sponsors we receive.
