Volunteer

Join a caring community of volunteers who transform lives. Together, we can make countless wishes come true.

Your time and unique talents are critical to bringing strength and hope to wish kids when they need it the most. In fact, our volunteers are at the heart of every wish experience.

Make-A-Wish volunteers consider their work impactful and meaningful. And, their efforts are rewarded—not in dollars or cents, but in the incredible difference they make in the lives of our wish kids. Volunteers even have the freedom to choose when and how they would like to help transform lives in our community.

We understand that you want to volunteer but might not know where your skills and talents best lie. Check out our volunteer opportunities and see where you can best help make wishes come true.

Volunteer Opportunities
Special Events Volunteer

Volunteers help with events sponsored by community organizations for the benefit of Make-A-Wish, as well as with the major events organized by the staff. Duties can include registration of participants, selling tickets, raffle tickets or items, hosting an information table, helping with silent auctions, set up and clean up, and more!

Fundraising

This volunteer is comfortable wish making requests for auction items, as well as inkind and monetary donations. This volunteer has the dedication and time to take a leadership role in fundraising events, such as creating and producing new events, workplace giving campaigns, and/or Kids for Wish Kids projects.

Wish Family Ambassador

Open to wish alumni and their families, represent Make-A-Wish at a number of external outreach and fundraising events to share your wish experience.

Airport Greeter

Welcome out of state wish children and families to Texas! The volunteers escort them through the airport to baggage claim and then to their transportation.

Wish Granter

Wish Granters work with staff directly with wish children and their families to discover the child’s wish, assist the family in completing extensive paperwork, and planning wish enhancements.

Your Make-A-Wish Journey Starts Today

At every level of the organization, volunteers are critical to the mission. Get started today and soon you can bring hope and joy to local children with critical illnesses as a Make-A-Wish volunteer.

Can anyone be a volunteer?
Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas requires that all volunteers be 18 years or older and reside within one of the 40 counties in our territory.  Students in K-12 that are interested in volunteering for our non-profit should check out our Kids for Wish Kids® program and or review options by clicking here.

We are currently looking for volunteers who speak both English and Spanish.  Our local Make-A-Wish chapter serves a large percentage of Spanish speaking families in our 40-county area, and we do not have enough Spanish speaking volunteers to meet our wish family's needs. If you are fluent in both English and Spanish, please consider becoming a wish granting volunteer.

Complete a Volunteer Application: All volunteer applicants are required to complete this form before attending training. Apply to be a volunteer here.

Register for Volunteer Training: Register for our next training on Saturday, May 4 from 9AM - 12PM. Seating is limited for our in-person training at our Austin Office (3600 Bee Caves Road, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78746). A virtual option is available via Microsoft Teams. Register for training at this link.

Complete a background check: After you attend orientation, you will be asked to complete a criminal background check.

Why do I need a background check?
Due to the nature of our work, select volunteer positions must successfully complete a criminal background check every 3 years. Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas does not employ or utilize as a volunteer any individual who has been convicted of a crime that (a) victimizes children, (b) is sexual in nature, or (c) involves violence, fraud, or significant theft. We do ask our volunteers to cover the cost of their background check.  Your background check will last for three years. Please contact us with any questions related to past convictions and/or our background check screening process.

Welcome! You are officially now a volunteer for Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas! You will be an integral part of delivering our mission forward.
