Your time and unique talents are critical to bringing strength and hope to wish kids when they need it the most. In fact, our volunteers are at the heart of every wish experience.
Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas volunteers consider their work impactful and meaningful. And their efforts are rewarded—not in dollars or cents, but in the incredible difference they make in the lives of our wish kids. Volunteers choose when and how they would like to help transform lives in their local community.
There are many opportunities to contribute and make a difference! Check out our volunteer opportunities and see where you can best help make wishes come true.
Event Volunteers help with events sponsored by community organizations for the benefit of Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, as well as with larger, internal events. Opportunities include helping with registration, ticket sales, raffle tickets, auction items, hosting an information table, helping with silent auctions, event set up and clean up, and more!
Fundraising Volunteers are comfortable making requests for auction items, in-kind, and/or monetary donations. Fundraising Volunteers have the dedication and time to take a leadership role in events, such as creating and producing new events, workplace giving campaigns, and Kids for Wish Kids projects.
Wish Family Ambassadors are wish alumni and their families, and volunteer to represent Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas at internal and external events and share their wish experiences.
Airport Greeters welcome out-of-state wish kids and their families to the state of Texas! These volunteers escort the families through the airport, baggage claim, and transportation.
Wish Granters, alongside staff, work directly with wish children and their families to discover the child’s wish, assist the family in completing wish paperwork, and planning the wish and any enhancements.
At every level of our organization, volunteers are critical to our mission. Get started today and you can bring hope and joy to local children with critical illnesses as a Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas volunteer!
Volunteer Requirements
Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas requires that all volunteers be 18 years or older and reside within one of the 40 counties in our region. For K-12 students interested in volunteering, check out our Kids for Wish Kids® program by clicking here.
Our local Make-A-Wish chapter serves a large percentage of Spanish speaking families in our region, and we are always in need of Spanish-speaking volunteers to help our families through the wish process. If you are fluent in both English and Spanish, please consider becoming a volunteer.

Background Checks
Upon completing the Volunteer Orientation & Wish Granter Training, you will be asked to complete a criminal background check required for all volunteers.
Due to the nature of our work, select volunteer positions must successfully complete a criminal background check every three years. Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas does not employ or utilize as a volunteer any individual who has been convicted of a crime that (a) victimizes children, (b) is sexual in nature, or (c) involves violence, fraud, or significant theft. We do ask our volunteers to cover the cost of their background check. Please contact us directly with any questions related our screening process.
Thank You!
We love our volunteers and appreciate your interest in our volunteer program! Our volunteers are essential part of our mission to grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses and our vision to fulfill every eligible child's wish.
