Johnna Makes the Grade with Her Wish for a Scholarship to Pursue Her Dream

For 18-year-old Johnna, her wish was more than a one-time experience, it was an opportunity to impact the lives of others just like herself.

Diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2020, Johnna recalls her nurses always supporting her as she went in and out of the hospital. She says they were always there to comfort, hold, or simply entertain her when she was bored.

“I wanted to give that to another child,” said Johnna. “I want to be what they are for me.”

Johnna’s wish for a scholarship to help offset some of the costs associated with her college education will help lighten the load as she pursues a career as a Nurse Practitioner, specializing in Pediatric Oncology. She wants to help other children who have also been diagnosed with cancer... just like she was.

Johnna says the most impactful part of her wish were the people, especially her wish-granting volunteer Angela. “The most memorable part of my wish was when Angela came over and my wish was granted,” said Johnna. “I was happy about the wish [being granted], but I was just really happy that everyone was there.”

For Angela, this wish came full circle.

This was her first wish-granting experience with Make-A-Wish and one she would immediately feel a connection to. Angela is a Registered Nurse [RN] and a life coach specializing in helping nurses along their career path.

Johnna’s inspiring story to become a Nurse Practitioner is just getting started. She is currently finishing her first year of college and says this dream is because people like you.
