Maddie Wish

Maddie’s Magical Wish to Meet Bruno

At just three years old, Maddie Steyer has already faced more than most children her age ever should. While undergoing treatment for lymphoma, Maddie found comfort and joy in the movies she watched throughout her journey, and one character in particular captured her heart: Bruno from Encanto.

So, when it came time to choose her wish, Maddie knew exactly what she wanted. Her wish was to travel to Disney to meet Bruno from Encanto and, of course, recreate one of her favorite moments from the movie, the scene where Bruno holds Mirabel’s hands and tells her, “Your hands are sweaty.” It was a wish that was uniquely Maddie, filled with imagination, laughter, and a little Disney magic.

From the very beginning of her adventure, Maddie was surrounded by moments she will never forget. One of her favorite memories started before she even arrived in Orlando. As she boarded the airplane, Maddie heard her name announced over the loudspeaker, a moment that brought her so much excitement that her family joked she may now expect a personal announcement every time she gets on an airplane!

Maddie Wish

During their stay at Give Kids the World Village, Maddie and her family filled their days with even more magic. She especially loved the splash pad, glitter tattoos, carousel, and meeting all of the Village characters. For her family, the Village became a place where they could simply enjoy being together, explore, laugh, and make memories without focusing on everything they had been through.

After watching so many movies throughout her treatments, getting to see those characters come to life was incredibly meaningful. Her family described watching Maddie hug and interact with the characters who had helped her through her journey as a moment that brought them to tears. And meeting Bruno was especially emotional.

There was something incredibly powerful about seeing a little girl who had spent so much of the past year facing treatments and uncertainty finally running around, laughing, exploring, and having the absolute time of her life.

Maddie's mom shared that returning home was bittersweet. After experiencing such an incredible adventure, the family found themselves struggling to settle back into normal life. They wished they could have stayed for another month — a testament to just how much joy and magic Maddie's wish brought to their family.

But the magic of a wish doesn't end when the trip is over.

Maddie's wish wasn't just a trip to Disney. It was a celebration of her strength, her joy, and the little girl behind her diagnosis. It was a reminder that even during the hardest chapters, there is still room for laughter, wonder, and a little bit of magic.

And somewhere along the way, Maddie got to meet Bruno, hold his hands, and live out a moment from one of the movies that helped her through it all.
