Hilton Gives Wish Family a Chance to Reconnect, Relax

When Jack needed a stem transplant as part of his cancer treatment, he and his entire family had to take an extended stay away from home at Hilton’s Home2 Suites. “It was a grueling and taxing month,” said Jack’s mom, Lesli. “But it was the staff’s hospitality that really made us feel at home. They treated us like family and rallied around us.”

Jack’s wish to go to the Maldives helped bring his family’s heartfelt connection with Hilton full circle. “Some of the staff at the Conrad Rangali Island Resort knew what Jack had been through and how this trip was the culmination and celebration of the long journey and focus on our future,” Lesli said. “Just like at Home2 Suites, we were truly treated like family.”

Jack battled cancer for three years. His wish to go to the Maldives started with  his love for sea animals, particularly turtles. It was also his dream to stay in a hut over water. Picturing himself swimming in the ocean, and even eating in the resort’s underwater restaurant, gave him hope and strength during such a dark and difficult time.

“Through it all, we dreamed of our Maldives trip and the days we would spend together in the Indian Ocean,” Lesli said.

While on his wish trip, Jack and his family spent time snorkeling on a private island. Jack was thrilled to swim alongside the sea turtles, and he could name every fish he saw.

Hilton has been a Make-A-Wish sponsor since 2011 and has generously contributed $2.1 million in cash and in-kind resources to help grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

“For three years, my son’s cancer battle was all consuming and affected my family in so many ways, large and small. I am grateful to Hilton for making it all a little better.”
