Volunteer Spotlight: Yoly L.
From Wish Mom to Wish Granter
We’re excited to introduce Yoly Lopez as this month’s volunteer spotlight! Yoly has been granting wishes with our North Texas chapter since 2018.
Yoly’s Make-A-Wish journey began when her son’s wish was granted. Inspired by the difference that was made in her son’s life, Yoly signed up to volunteer. Once she became a wish granter, Yoly realized that she was able to instill hope in children with critical illnesses when they needed it most.
“Granting wishes brings happiness to the kids and keeps their minds off what they are going through,” Yoly explained. “I am able to see kindness and sensibility through people by donating money, time and love to wish to kids.”
Yoly has been involved in numerous wishes over the years and knows how special they all are, but one stands out in her mind – Paola’s wish for a room re-do.
“Paola is very quiet and lives with grandma and grandpa. She was very shy at the beginning of this adventure, but by the time we granted her wish, she was more open and felt more comfortable around us. She was so surprised at all the things she received in her room makeover,” Yoly shared.
It’s easy to see how much Yoly adores Make-A-Wish, the wish kids, and their families. Yoly shared that her favorite thing about volunteering is “seeing the face of a kid when granting their wish. They forget what they are going through with treatments, and they can keep their mind off the difficult times they are facing. That is priceless to me!”
Yoly encourages others to volunteer with Make-A-Wish so they can give back while experiencing the hope and joy families rediscover through a wish.
“I would tell someone who is thinking about volunteering for Make-A-Wish North Texas that it will be an unforgettable experience and extremely rewarding. Being a part of Make-A-Wish makes me appreciate my health, life and all that I have."
Thank you, Yoly, for your hard work and dedication to Make-A-Wish North Texas! Our volunteers create the magic of the wish. If you are inspired by Yoly, please consider signing up to become a volunteer today.
