Join a caring community of volunteers who transform lives. Together, we can make countless wishes come true.
Your time and unique talents are critical to bringing strength and hope to wish kids when they need it the most. In fact, our volunteers are at the heart of every wish experience.
Make-A-Wish volunteers consider their work impactful and meaningful. And, their efforts are rewarded—not in dollars or cents, but in the incredible difference they make in the lives of our wish kids. Volunteers even have the freedom to choose when and how they would like to help transform lives in our community.
We understand that you want to volunteer but might not know where your skills and talents best lie. Check out our volunteer opportunities and see where you can best help make wishes come true.
TYPES OF VOLUNTEERS
Do you have a few hours each week? Maybe a few days each week? Then you can help bring the rejuvenation of wish experiences to kids with critical medical conditions medical conditions. You can join a network of more than 35,000 caring people nationwide who make it possible for Make-A-Wish® kids to live their one true wish.
Make-A-Wish North Texas relies primarily on fundraising and development to provide the resources necessary to fulfill the wishes of the children in our area. We have many events and fundraisers throughout the year, usually in the evenings or on weekends, that need volunteers who are willing to work a two-to-three hour shift (This volunteer opportunity may not be available, please contact Services Team at [email protected] ).
Wish granters are trained individuals who meet with our children to determine their wish. These volunteers work closely with the Make-A-Wish staff to make each wish come true. Most wish granters meet with their families in the evenings or on the weekend (Wish Granters are currently conducting VIRTUAL visits). Wishes can be granted in just several days or may take up to a year to complete. A specialized training program is provided before contact is made with a wish family. We are currently looking for wish granters who are fluent in both English and Spanish. We serve a large percentage of Spanish speaking with families, and without Spanish speaking wish granters, we are not able to quickly meet the needs of those Spanish speaking families. If you are fluent in both English and Spanish, please consider becoming a wish granter.
Administrative volunteers provide much of the necessary hands-on work needed to coordinate Make-A-Wish projects. Duties may include data entry, phone calls, making copies and preparing mail-outs. Without administrative volunteers, it would not be possible for all the work that must be done to be completed. Volunteers interested in this position must be available during our office hours (This volunteer opportunity may not be available, please contact Services Team at [email protected] ).
Help facilitate wish experiences for non-English-speaking families. Translators have the option of becoming fully trained wish granting volunteers, or they can provide short-term support on an as-needed basis.
Kids For Wish Kids®
Sometimes the biggest donor doesn't have to be so big! Our Kids For Wish Kids Program helps school aged children discover the importance of philanthropy and community service. This program is about kids helping other kids. Adult volunteers are needed to personally contact teachers and principals in all areas. The students and teachers will organize the fundraisers, but we need volunteers to make the initial contact with the schools. The time commitment will be minimal, and the rewards are priceless!

How do I become a volunteer?
In order to provide the wish children and their families with the best experience possible, we require potential volunteers to:
- Complete a volunteer application
- Complete a background check (not applicable for one-time event volunteers)
- Complete on-line volunteer orientation (not applicable for one-time event volunteers, Governing Board and Regional Council Members)
- Attend specialized training for certain volunteer positions (i.e., Wish Granting, etc.)
This process can take about 2-weeks after your submission of the volunteer application.
Why do I need a background check?
Due to the nature of our work, select volunteer positions must successfully complete a criminal background check every 3 years. Make-A-Wish North Texas does not employ or utilize as a volunteer any individual who has been convicted of a crime that (a) victimizes children, (b) is sexual in nature, or (c) involves violence, fraud, or significant theft. We do ask our volunteers to cover the cost of their background check. Your background check will last for three years. Please contact us with any questions related to past convictions and/or our background check screening process.
Can anyone be a volunteer?
Make-A-Wish North Texas requires that all volunteers be 18 years or older and reside within one of the 161 counties in our territory. Students in K-12 that are interested in volunteering for the Foundation should check out our Kids for Wish Kids® program and or review options by clicking here.
We are currently looking for volunteers who speak both English and Spanish. Our local Make-A-Wish chapter serves a large percentage of Spanish speaking families in our 161-county area, and we do not have enough Spanish speaking volunteers to meet our wish family's needs. If you are fluent in both English and Spanish, please consider becoming a wish granting volunteer.
