Wish granters Ashley and Juanita

Volunteer Spotlight: Ashley A.

Fifteen years of wishes

This month, we’re excited to recognize volunteer wish granter and staff member Ashley Amerman in honor of her 15th work anniversary with Make-A-Wish North Texas! She currently serves as the chapter’s Director of Mission Integration and Engagement.

Ashley’s journey with Make-A-Wish started during her college career at Texas Tech University. When her sorority Chi Omega began partnering with Make-A-Wish on a national level, she was excited to learn more about the mission and get involved as soon as possible.

“Community service is one of Chi Omega’s six purposes, and I immediately saw this as the perfect partnership,” Ashley said. “It’s such a great way for young women to come together to support the community.”

A few years after graduating college, Ashley became a full-time staff member with the North Texas chapter of Make-A-Wish, and she immediately became a wish-granting volunteer. She discovered her purpose as she helped bring joy and hope to local children.

“I love that as a volunteer, you directly impact kids. You are the one that brings the magic to the child and family,” she shared. “These kids see that the wish is possible, and they start thinking about what else is possible in their lives. It’s priceless.”

Ashley has worked in different positions throughout her career at Make-A-Wish North Texas, but one thing always remains the same: she continues to bring wishes to life every single day.

“During every wish, I feel honored to be part of that child’s journey. It gives me spark to keep going, and it’s very grounding to meet these families. It keeps things in perspective, and it’s the biggest lesson in ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff.’”

A wish that continues to stand out in Ashley’s mind was one teenage boy’s wish for a gaming computer.

“He loved gaming with his friends, but he was in the hospital for six months. We delivered the computer and all its accessories to hospital. His reaction was incredible. And for years after that, his mom would send photos of him playing on it with his friends. That was his outlet to the world,” she said.

Ashley found her passion and purpose through Make-A-Wish, and she wants to encourage others to do the same! Volunteers are crucial to our mission, and we would love for you to join Ashley and the other staff members and volunteers who help make wishes come true.

“We want every wish child to have an amazing journey. Our staff can’t do it all on our own. Wish granters bring the fun and the magic, and they get to be creative. There’s such a huge need for volunteers right now,” she said.

We’re incredibly thankful for Ashley’s dedication to the Make-A-Wish mission and for the thousands of wishes she has helped grant. Here’s to the next 15 years!
