Lakeview Elementary Celebrates 11 Years of Support
For the past decade, Lakeview Elementary has supported Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley in many ways. As a school community, it has raised approximately $75,000 through various fundraisers.
The faculty and students purchased angels for the former Adopt-An-Angel campaign. Teachers participated in Dress Down Days and donated the money they saved on dry cleaning to support Make-A-Wish. Their students learn the importance of helping others — Kids For Wish Kids®!
The most popular fundraiser, which takes place every year, is a teacher versus fourth- and fifth-grade students basketball game! Each March, Lakeview Elementary (faculty, staff, students, parents) join together to make one very special child’s wish come true! They make posters to advertise the big game within the elementary school (some with their wish child’s name, others promoting the kids or teachers and, of course, good sportsmanship!!). People volunteer to collect money, sell raffle tickets, make treats to sell at the bake sale, take pictures, coach student players, referee, set up the chairs, and decorate the gymnasium and other areas of the school. A multitalented fifth-grade teacher acts as the D.J. Not only does she announce the players and different quarters, but she also always includes the wish child’s favorite songs! It’s a magical evening for all those involved! A night when people of all ages come together to support a very worthy cause — to help make a special little person’s wish come true!
This year, Lakeview plans to support Make-A-Wish once again! At some point in late March, it will host its 11th Annual Fundraiser Basketball Game in support of its friends at Make-A-Wish. Stay tuned for more details!
