Throughout his treatment for leukemia, LEGO was the one thing that Anthony could focus on and find happiness.

“Before I had cancer, I didn’t have many LEGO sets,” said Anthony.  “But it kept my mind off of things and made me happy when I was in the hospital so I just continued building.”

When it came time to pick a wish, he knew he would do something LEGO-related and decided to merge his favorite show – LEGO MASTERS with his favorite pastime, building LEGO – so that the masters’ could help him create his own mini-masterpiece.

“The most fun part was figuring out the story,” said Anthony. “Once I had the story, I could figure out a way to make it work.”

Make-A-Wish connected Anthony with LEGO MASTERS contestants Travis and Corey Samuels to help him create his vision. Even more special, Travis is a fellow childhood leukemia survivor!

Anthony’s wish has opened up the world for him. He has really used his imagination and it has helped him focus.

Over the past five months, Anthony has had Zoom calls with Corey to work out the details of how to convert available LEGO bricks into Anthony’s vision of the Germ Star – a battle royal between a special team of LEGO minifigs and the evil Germs that are attacking them!

In December, Anthony had his last call with Corey and showed off all he had accomplished. Not only did he share the full Germ Star, with dungeon, laser for shooting germs at planets and a meeting room for those “bad germs” making plans to ruin the universe, but also a ship for his army of minfigs and the tower hosting the Golden Wish Brick.

My wish taught me how to do a lot of things that I didn’t know were possible.

And he hopes to continue the trend. As for Anthony’s Germ Star story? He’s beginning a new chapter.

He recently presented at the BRICKS Lego convention with Corey and hopes to submit a future build to LEGO with the possibilities of it becoming an actual LEGO set. Plus, he’s thinking movies.

“I’d really like to make videos out of my LEGO sets like stop-motion animation,” he continued. “I hope to do that with my Germ Star build.”
