This project is inspired by Rey Rosa, wish alum and co-founder of the LISA Project NYC. Rey has fought a critical illness since birth, and after growing up in the foster care system, he credits his wish with bringing color and imagination to his life. Rey’s wish to visit Walt Disney World® Resort at the age of 10 allowed him, in his words “To see color again.” Ultimately, it led him to becoming a street artist passionate about giving back to his community.

The Artists: Rey “The Dr¡f” Rosa and John "Crash" Matos 

"Seeing Color Again" is a collaborative piece between Rey and John "Crash" Matos.  

As early as 13, John Matos was spray painting New York City trains and is regarded as a pioneer of the Graffiti art movement. His work is said to convey a “visual link between street life and established society.” In 1980, Crash curated the now iconic exhibition Graffiti Art Success for America at Fashion MODA, launching the graffiti movement that has remained very active through today. By the 1980s, Crash gained international recognition through gallery and museum shows across the US and abroad - all of which continue through today.  

"Seeing Color Again" celebrates not only Rey's wish experience and the impact it had on his life, but also how the city of New York is coming back to life as we all begin seeing color again. 

"I would love for others to experience the color I see in this world." - Rey Rosa
