Even though every day can be a struggle managing his rare disease, Maksim is happy, joyful and has a contagious laugh. For Maksim’s wish, he wanted to get away from the cold of Minnesota and travel to the beaches of Hawaii, to play in the sand and go on a shark adventure. A couple years before when Maksim was miraculously off dialysis for a period of time, he had gone to Hawaii with his grandparents. He wanted to go back with his family and swim in the lagoons again.
Make-A-Wish made this possible. When Maksim’s family arrived
for his wish trip, he was already in his swim trunks running toward
the shoreline. It was an unforgettable week for Maksim and his family. There were no schedules to follow – just time together. They relaxed
on the beach, searched for shark teeth along the shore and even went
on a shark boat so Maksim could see real sharks. His parents said his wish was a glimpse of something that was pure joy for Maksim. It was exactly what they needed too: time to focus on each other.
“Maksim’s wish was a chance to pause life’s responsibilities and focus on fun and family,” Maksim’s parents said. “Being granted time away like this brought tears to our eyes.”
