Donor Advised Funds

Giving Through Donor Advised Funds

A donor advised fund (DAF) offers a convenient and tax-smart way to support Make-A-Wish and other charitable organizations. Through your DAF, you can recommend grants whenever you're ready, making it easy to support wishes today and plan for future giving.

You can also extend your impact by naming Make-A-Wish as a beneficiary of your fund. Whether you designate all or a portion of your account, you can continue bringing hope and joy to children with critical illnesses for years to come.

How it works:

  1. Contribute to your donor advised fund and receive an eligible tax deduction.
  2. Recommended grants from your fund to Make-A-Wish and other charities you support.
  3. Create a legacy by naming Make-A-Wish as a beneficiary of all or a portion of your fund.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is donor advised fund (DAF)?
    • A donor advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable giving account that allows you to make contributions, receive eligible tax benefits and recommend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations such as Make-A-Wish. DAFs offer a flexible and convenient way to support the causes you care about now and in the future.
  • How can I give to Make-A-Wish through my DAF?
    • You can recommend a grant to Make-A-Wish through your donor advised fund administrator or use DAFPay to make a grant directly from this website. You can also set up recurring grants to support wish granting throughout the year.
  • Is my DAF donation tax-deductible?
    • Contributions to your donor advised fund may be eligible for a tax deduction when they are made to the fund. Because individual tax situations vary, we recommend consulting your tax advisor regarding the tax implications of your charitable giving.
  • Will I receive a tax receipt for my DAF donation?
    • Make-A-Wish does not provide a tax receipt for grants distributed from a DAF. Your donor advised fund administrator can provide documentation related to your fund contributions and grant activity.
  • Is DAFPay safe to use?
    • Yes. DAFPay is a secure giving tool that allows donors to recommend grants from participating donor advised fund providers directly from our website. The platform is designed to help streamline the grant recommendation process while protecting your information.
  • How can I designate Make-A-Wish as a beneficiary of my DAF?
    • Many donor advised fund providers allow you to name one or more charitable beneficiaries to receive all or a portion of your fund after your lifetime. To designate Make-A-Wish as a beneficiary, contact your fund administrator and request a beneficiary designation form or instructions.
  • I have more questions. How can I get in touch?
    • We're here to help. If you have questions about giving through your donor advised fund, need assistance with a grant recommendation, or would like to let us know about an upcoming DAF gift, please contact us at daf@wish.org.
