Director of Medical Outreach
Make-A-Wish® New Jersey, creating life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses in the Garden State with the belief that a wish experience can be a game-changer seeks a full-time Director of Medical Outreach to join our team at our Monroe Township, NJ castle facility. Reporting to the Vice President of Mission Delivery and working closely with the Senior Director of Wish Granting and Director of Volunteer Programs, the Director of Medical Outreach plays an integral role in fulfilling the mission of Make-A-Wish® New Jersey to bring hope, strength, and joy in granting the wishes of eligible children who face life-threatening medical conditions. The Director of Medical Outreach is responsible for assisting the Mission Delivery department with the intake of new referrals and executing the goals and objectives of the Medical Outreach team.
- Responsible for developing, strategizing, and overseeing the chapter’s medical outreach and eligibility efforts to ensure all qualified children receive a wish.
- Build a referral source network in New Jersey through research, analysis, and cultivation of relationships with medical professionals, hospital administrators, social workers, and child life specialists.
- Maintain existing referral source relationships and work to identify new referral sources while strategically determining the best method for continued outreach and engagement.
- Responsible for the production of medical outreach materials, and all support materials related to outreach with approval of Vice President of Mission Delivery.
- Successfully manage and supervise the processing of referrals and eligibility paperwork from medical professionals (including evaluating eligibility in accordance with national and organizational policies), documented, and updated properly and in a timely manner within the chapter’s database (Raiser’s Edge/Salesforce) with the assistance of the Intake Coordinator and/or Program Services Assistant(s)
- Plan and implement in-person or virtual meetings for Make-A-Wish New Jersey leadership to host learning opportunities in key referring hospitals with various departments (CLS, SW, Nurses, Grand Rounds, etc.) on the chapter’s services, policies, and eligibility requirements. Expectation of number of visits per year to be set by Vice President of Mission Delivery
- Convey questions, concerns, and needs of referral sources to leadership positions within the Mission Delivery team.
- Understanding of the wish granting process to be able to coordinate all aspects of a wish when support is needed to grant every eligible child’s wish in a timely manner.
- Work with Vice President of Mission Delivery to coordinate and facilitate recognition events for medical professionals.
- Supervise, train, and assist the Intake Coordinator position and support staff members such as Mission Support Specialist that support the Mission Delivery Department; as well as intern(s), office and Wishing Place volunteers who support intake and Medical Outreach efforts.
General:
- Represent Make-A-Wish New Jersey at annual events; work as a liaison and support figure for medical professionals and wish families who are in attendance.
- Maintain sensitivity and confidentiality to medical professionals, and wish families being served by the Foundation.
- Adhere to all Make-A-Wish® America/Make-A-Wish® New Jersey performance standards and policies. • Other duties, as assigned
Preferred Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred with 5+ years of marketing experience, working knowledge of childhood illnesses and/or treatment protocols.
- Experience working in a medical outreach and/or experience in health services, hospital setting and/or with medical professionals preferred.
- Must be social media savvy for research and communication purposes.
- Self-motivated, creative, critical thinker, analytical driven, problem-solving team player with excellent organization and interpersonal skills required.
- Confident, polished, and professional presentation and communication skills to both large and small groups.
- Highly professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, Make-A-Wish America national staff and vendors, and wish families.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and database management (preferably Salesforce).
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and achieve objectives with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to build and sustain productive long-term relationships.
- Commitment to and a passion for the mission of Make-A-Wish New Jersey.
- Travel required to visit with referral sources within the tri-state area (NJ, NY, PA) up to 40%. Additional travel may arise on an as needed basis.
- Willing and able to work nights and weekends, when necessary.
- Fluency in Spanish, a plus.
- Must pass background check.
