Danny's wish to go to the Walt Disney World Resort

Danny Makes His Long-Awaited Return To Disney

As Danny entered his final months of eighth grade, preparing for his middle school graduation ceremony and looking forward to his high school career, a cancer diagnosis turned his world upside down.

Instead of celebrating his achievements and spending the summer having fun with his friends before entering the next stage of his life, the thirteen-year-old was thrust into a flurry of doctors’ visits, painful treatments and isolation.

“The first month of his treatment was the worst time in my life, and I’m sure his,” his mom Kim says. “He reacted strongly to the medications, both physically and mentally, and was in a lot of pain, losing weight, strength, and emotional health quickly.”

The next couple years of Danny’s life passed in a blur, as he and his family adapted to their new normal. Through the uncertainty, two things remained constant – Danny’s family would always be by his side to help him through his health journey and the feelings of optimism that came with Danny’s referral to Make-A-Wish and knowing that he would be granted a life-changing wish.

“From that day on, it was something that was a beacon of light out there waiting for us,” Kim continues. “It wasn’t something we really talked about a lot, but it was always in the back of our minds – when we got through the worst of the treatment, we had something exciting to look forward to.”

Danny’s heart was set on returning to the Walt Disney World Resort, a place he remembered fondly from a family trip nearly a decade ago. This time, his family would experience the parks in a different way, as Danny and his siblings were now teenagers who could create fun social media videos together documenting their trip, from laughing at inside jokes to creating mini traditions like enjoying a churro each day at the parks.

“We had a truly wonderful trip, everything I had imagined it would be,” Kim says. “It gave us closure. We were able to say, “We made it, Danny made it”. He earned it with his pain and his determination and his perseverance. I will always be grateful to Make-A-Wish for giving us this experience.”

It was a magical, perfect trip.
