Sienna's She-Shed

Sienna's She-Shed Getaway

For nearly the past two years, Sienna’s cancer diagnosis has been front of mind for her and family.

“I'm not even sure if impact is the right word,” her mom Julie shares. “Our whole world was thrown to pieces.” Through the grueling treatments, long stays away from home in the hospital and the ongoing pandemic that further put her health at risk, her family did their best to remain optimistic. “We try and just follow the ups,” Julie says.

One of those “ups” came in the form of the good news that the twelve-year-old would be granted a life-changing wish. “The wish journey was incredible, we started it when Sienna was hospitalized for very long periods of time,” Julie recalls. “As she planned her wish, It gave her hope as we sat in the hospital, it took her mind off of the hospital environment and all the intensive treatment she was going through.” Sienna’s fondest wish came in the form of a “she-shed” – a special spot in her backyard that she could call her own, away from the thoughts of her diagnosis. “I wanted a she-shed because I spent the last year in the hospital,” Sienna says. “I was there more than I was home. When I got home, I wanted a place of my own.

“We would daydream of the day when we would get to sit in the she-shed and listen to music, create art, and we would immerse ourselves in planning how to decorate it,” her mom says. “The day the she-shed was delivered was so exciting, it was like trading cancer for a little piece of paradise. My heart is full when I see her out there doing everything she dreamed of while being in the hospital.”

“I was excited that the she-shed arrived and I had a special place of my own to hangout in and be me,” Sienna says. “In life you don't always have a clear path, but what Make-A-Wish does is to help special kids have something awesome or have an amazing experience. They will do everything they can to make that path a little easier.

Thank you all at Make- A-Wish for allowing Sienna to feel amazing and forget about cancer!
