Jace's wish to have a camper

Jace Wants to "Catch the Bad Guys"

Jace’s health journey began before he was even born, when he was diagnosed with a heart defect that affects the valves and chambers of the heart.

With this diagnosis being made when Jace’s mom was just twenty weeks pregnant, Jace’s parents prepared themselves for the fact that their baby would need open heart surgery as soon as he was born.

“He had his first open heart surgery at just 6 days old, his second one at 6 months old, and his third one just last June at 3 years old,’ his mom Kyla said. “In between all of that, he was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome which causes his heart to have electrical misfiring's from time to time, sometimes resulting in high heart rates. Thankfully after a few hospital stays for that we are able to manage it with medication and monitoring at home.”

Jace's wish to have a camper

Despite his rough entry into the world, Jace’s family describe him as a happy kid with a silly personality who loves to have fun. The four-year-old loves being outdoors but tires easily and is temperature-sensitive due to his heart condition. For his wish, Jace wanted a way to enjoy the things he loves to do while not putting his health at risk. The perfect solution came in the form of a camper, but Jace didn’t want just any ordinary camper. His wish was for a camper themed with his favorite superhero, Spider-man, so he could travel across the country, catching bad guys like his hero.

Jace was surprised with his wish come true on World Wish Day, April 29th, in a celebration of the day that inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish. However, it wasn’t just the camper that surprised Jace and his family, but also the person waiting inside to teach the young boy how to be a superhero – none other than Spider-Man himself. Jace and his family spent their morning hanging out in his new camper all while Jace learned how to catch bad guys from his web-slinging hero.

“Jace has been through so much in his short life, it was wonderful having something put together for him that is as special and cool as he is,” Kyla continued. “He was definitely surprised on wish day to not only see his awesome camper, but to meet and hangout with his favorite superhero! Having his camper has been wonderful in taking him on adventures and having a space that's like a second home to go to easily to allow him time to relax or cool off in between exploring and playing outside. The best part for us as his parents is hearing him still talk about how special getting his wish was. He always talks about what he thinks Spider-Man is up to and where he wants to take his Spider-Man camper next.
