MAKE-A-WISH & WEST NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT TO GRANT SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL’S WISH TO BE A POLICE OFFICER

Sorianny Will Be Sworn In & Experience A Day in the Life of a Police Officer Wednesday, November 22nd at 11:00AM

West New York, NJSix-year-old Sorianny of West New York, New Jersey, will experience the life-changing power of a wish on Wednesday, November 22nd, when she is surprised with an entire day in her honor and her wish to be a police officer is granted.

Sorianny, who has courageously battled a life-threatening, critical illness, has always wanted to be a police officer. Her mother, Ana, is currently enrolled in the Police Academy and has been a role model for Sorianny all her life. Sorianny’s wish is to be just like her mom, and her real-life heroes that protect the community, and become a police officer herself. On Wednesday, that wish becomes a reality.

Sorianny’s day will begin with a surprise police escort from her home to the West New York Police Department and Town Hall, where she will be sworn in as an honorary member of the force. After her special ceremony, surrounded by her family and the West New York Police Department, she will be welcomed into her new law enforcement family – and be put right to work! From patrols in a police vehicle, to exploring the department, being fully immersed in the daily life of a police officer and even being called into action to save the day and make an arrest, Sorianny’s wish will bring her life-changing joy that will last a lifetime.

Sorianny’s wish also holds a special and historic significance in Make-A-Wish history; the founding of Make-A-Wish in 1980 was inspired by a 7-year-old boy in Phoenix, Arizona named Chris Greicius, who was battling leukemia. Chris always wanted to be a police officer, and members of law enforcement gathered together to create a life-changing day for him. Chris’ experience was the inspiration for the founding of Make-A-Wish, and since that day, April 29th, 1980, over 550,000 children with critical illnesses have experienced the life-changing power of a wish.
