City Of Burlington Public School District Raises Over $6,500 For Make-A-Wish® New Jersey At Annual “Family Fun Night”

January 29, 2019

Monroe Township, NJ - The City of Burlington School District hosted its annual “Family Fun Night” on Friday, January 25th at Burlington City High School. Each year, schools throughout the district work together to create a family-friendly gathering integrated with food, music, costumes, games, tickets and prizes. The event’s proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish New Jersey, whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Over the past four years, “Family Fun Night” has become a staple event anticipated throughout the entire city of Burlington. Annual community participation has continued to grow and this year, nearly 800 guests were in attendance.  United States Congressman, Andy Kim, also surprised guests at “City Con” with a visit to the renowned evening of fun.

“’City Con’, the theme for the 2019 Family Fun Night, hosted by the City of Burlington Public School District, raised $6,600 for Make-A-Wish New Jersey.  We have raised over $25,000 for this worthy cause over the past four years,” shared Dr. Patricia T. Doloughty, Superintendent of Schools. “We are proud of our effort to provide an evening of family fun to support a cause that makes a difference for children battling serious illness.  The event is supported by donations and grant funds, so there is no cost for the district from school funds and no cost for the families. The games are created and loaned to us by Dr. John Russell at no cost to the event.  The generosity of all the people involved is amazing.”

Local community groups and organizations were also in attendance with information on their services and how residents can get more involved. Over 90 volunteers supported the evening activities, including members of the 501st Legion.  Student organizations from within the district also volunteered their time to help with coat rooms and orchestrating some of the many games available to guests.  Additionally, Make-A-Wish New Jersey hosted a table for guests to learn more about the mission the evening’s contributions would support.

According to the school district, since its inception four years ago, the annual “Family Fun Night” remains the core idea that exemplifies their overall vision of bringing the community together in fun and family-oriented ways, with a common goal of making a difference in the life of a local child with a critical illness. From the continued growth in attendance, to the passion and enthusiasm the student body shows year after year, the unified goal is one that resonates throughout the entire student body and the city of Burlington.

Make-A-Wish New Jersey thanks the City of Burlington Public School District for their ongoing support and steadfast belief in their mission. For more information on Make-A-Wish New Jersey, visit nj.wish.org and learn how you can transform lives, one wish at a time.
