Partnership Surpasses $1 Million Milestone in Three Years

Monroe Township, NJ - Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants across New Jersey joined forces for their third consecutive year with Make-A-Wish New Jersey, to aid the organization in their mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnessesThis March, during the Annual “Month of Giving”, Jersey Mike’s Subs raised $458,700 for Make-A-Wish New Jersey, which will grant nearly 50 wishes to local children in the weeks and months ahead. Since their partnership began in 2017, Jersey Mike’s Subs has cumulatively raised over $1 Million for Make-A-Wish New Jersey.

Throughout the entire month of March, customers were asked to make a donation to Make-A-Wish New Jersey at any of the 67 participating Jersey Mike’s locations. The campaign’s major highlight took place on March 27th – the Day of Giving – a day when all participating Jersey Mike’s locations donated 100 percent of sales, not just profits, to Make-A-Wish New Jersey.

“A wish creates an opportunity for hope and the ability to experience life beyond illness,” shared Tom Weatherall, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish New Jersey. “Our friends at Jersey Mike’s Subs and their loyal fan base have shown us - yet again - they understand the impact of a wish, in their excitement and generosity during the Month of Giving. We are humbled to have been selected as their charity partner in New Jersey once again. This special partnership has raised over $1 million for us in just three short years and resonates with all involved. We thank everyone who made this year’s Month of Giving a great success!”

Eleven other Make-A-Wish chapters were the beneficiaries of funds during the nationwide campaign in their own regions, as far west as Hawaii, as north as New Hampshire, as south as Alabama and along the eastern seaboard, represented in over 100 stores. Of the $7.3 Million raised nationally for over 200 charities, more than $725,000 will be donated to Make-A-Wish chapters – over $450,000 to Make-A-Wish New Jersey alone.

“I would like to thank our extraordinary customers, franchise owners, team members and charity partners who helped us raise the most ever during Jersey Mike’s 9th Annual Month of Giving in March,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO.  “Our mission statement has always been focused on making a difference in people’s lives, and the record-setting amount raised this March will go a long way toward supporting the good work of our local partner charities.”

Cancro, who bought his first sub shop at age 17, credits two local businessmen in Point Pleasant Beach where he grew up — Jack Baker of Baker’s Lobster Shanty and Bob Hoffman of Hoffman’s Ice Cream — with showing him the importance of giving unconditionally to the community. “Giving…making a difference in someone’s life” has been the mission of Jersey Mike’s from the beginning. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $41 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Since 1983, Make-A-Wish New Jersey has created life-changing wishes for over 10,000 children in the Garden State. In the fight against a critical illness, a wish helps kids look past their limitations, families overcome anxiety and entire communities experience joy. Most importantly, a wish can improve a child’s quality of life. Make-A-Wish New Jersey granted a record 560 wishes in its most recent fiscal year, and with a goal of granting nearly 600 wishes this year, the generous support of corporations like Jersey Mike’s Subs is critical to the organization’s continued success.
