Wish Wednesday - Virtual Paint Night with Annie Bao
Annie Bao is a Contemporary Realist and Surrealist painter who specializes in oil portraiture, murals, and functional art. Self-taught, Annie established Annie Bao Art while pursuing her Masters in Political Science and International Affairs at Columbia University. She subsequently worked as a political analyst until 2012 when she left her job to focus on Annie Bao Art full-time.
Annie is sought-after for her realist portrait commissions based on photographic references as well as portraits that transport the sitter to a surrealist and fantastical realm. Annie’s original artwork revolves around the themes of Asian culture, gender, mental health, and the exploration of abstract untranslatable words from other languages. Texture often plays an important role in her work through her incorporation of fabric and embroidery. In recent years her practice has expanded to include functional and home decor objects such as murals, wallpaper, furniture, and novelty boxes.
Annie has exhibited regularly in New York City and sells to private collectors domestically and internationally. Through her art she has become involved in various charitable organizations including the Make-a-Wish Foundation, New York Junior League, and mental health advocacy group Emotions Matter.
