One week, Jaxon was doing what he loved most, running around the football field with his friends. The next, his life changed forever.

When Jaxon was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, doctors discovered he was already in the late stages of heart failure. Almost overnight, his world shifted from school, sports, and plans for the future to hospital rooms, medical terms, and the uncertainty of waiting for a heart transplant.

“The entire experience was unexpected and went really fast,” Jaxon said. “I try not to let my medical condition limit me. I work hard to continue to do all the things I did prior to my heart transplant.”

Before getting sick, travel had always been one of Jaxon’s greatest joys. During recovery, it became something even more powerful, a symbol of getting his life back. When he was referred to Make-A-Wish Minnesota, Jaxon didn’t hesitate. He wished to visit Walt Disney World and Universal Studios to experience thrill rides he had only been able to watch online while healing.

“I wanted to ride all the roller coasters I’d only seen on videos,” Jaxon shared. “And I knew my little brother would have a great time too.”

On his wish trip, Jaxon often asked if he could sit in the front row of the rides, and the staff would make it happen. Experiencing each coaster from the front made him feel, as he described it, “on top of the world.”

For Jaxon, the trip was about far more than theme parks. It was about reclaiming joy after months of fear and uncertainty. It was about feeling like a kid again, not a patient or a diagnosis, but a teenager laughing with his family and making memories that would last a lifetime.

When Jaxon returned home, the impact of his wish didn’t fade. He jumped right back into preparing for the upcoming football season, grateful for the chance to play alongside his friends again. He spent his days golfing, fishing at the lake, and simply enjoying time with his family, doing the everyday things that once felt uncertain.

“Jaxon is so incredibly strong,” said his mom, Sarah. “He has worked hard to not let his heart transplant define him. We know this is just the beginning of our next journey, keeping him healthy, but right now, it feels so great to watch him thrive.”

For Sarah, the most meaningful part of the wish journey was seeing her son experience pure, uninterrupted joy.

“His smile never left his face,” she shared. “I was incredibly humbled by the entire experience. Make-A-Wish provided something we never thought we would need but are so thankful it was there. It celebrated everything Jaxon has overcome in such a short time and reminded us how powerful hope can be.”
