Summary

The Wish Coordinator is responsible for fulfilling the chapter’s mission: to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.  The wish coordinator facilitates the wish experience for each child and family, while serving as the main point of contact for the chapter.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the wish experience through open communication with wish-granting volunteers and wish families.

  • Manage the timely flow of all wish files in caseload to exceed benchmarks established by Make-A-Wish® America (“National Office”).

  • Work collaboratively with the Development Department to raise resources for each individual wish by obtaining in-kind donations specific to the wish.

  • Manage communication with all Spanish Speaking families throughout the entire wish process.

  • Support chapter with translations from English to Spanish, and any other needs that require the use of Spanish language.

  • Submit all required accounting reports for review and approval to the Director of Wish Granting.

  • Create a budget and plan to exceed each wish child’s expectations while working to offset cash costs associated with the wish using guidelines established by the chapter.

  • Work as a team with interns, volunteers, chapter staff and donors to meet fundraising goals, including developing relationships with vendors who may provide services or products to the chapter.

  • Oversee the financial reconciliation and closing of all completed wishes within caseload.

  • Create wish itineraries unique to each wish.

  • Keep database wish files current for each wish child assigned.

  • Maintain sensitivity to and confidentiality of families being served by the chapter.

  • Participate in the rotating on-call schedule and follow up procedure.

  • Identify and communicate to chapter leadership all potential opportunities and/or relationships that will increase the chapter’s ability to raise funds and grant wishes.

  • Identify challenges and recommend solutions to senior leadership.

  • Attend chapter events as needed in support of the chapter’s mission i.e. Wish-Granting Volunteer Training.

  • Adhere to all National Office performance standards and chapter internal controls, policies and procedures.

  • Skill in multi-tasking and managing multiple deadlines, while maintaining a high level of organization

  • Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to present a professional and courteous impression of the chapter.

  • Ability to interact with and manage a group of volunteers.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professional demeanor and work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers, and consultants. 

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change. 

Education & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • Experience: Two (2) years of general office experience in a fast-paced environment.

  • Computer/System Skills: Microsoft Office and database management, preferably Raiser’s Edge database management software.

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

  • Other Skills: Fluency in spoken and written Spanish required.
