Planned Giving

You have the power to grant transformative wishes now and into the future.

Planned gifts made through a bequest, retirement plan, life insurance policy or other means ensure your support of wish kids well into the future. They can also help you balance financial goals and philanthropy, while possibly achieving significant tax benefits.

Bequest Language
With one simple sentence, you can make a gift through your will or living trust. Our preferred bequest language is below, which can be shared with your attorney when drafting a bequest intention.

"I give the sum of $͟     (or ͟    %) to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, 6555 Rock Spring Drive, Suite 280, Bethesda, MD 20817, Tax ID 52-1306075, to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors deems appropriate in its sole discretion."

Change your mind at any time. We realize that circumstances change, and your bequest may no longer be possible at some future date. Your family comes first, and that’s why a bequest works for so many of our supporters: you can change your mind at any time.

A Free Tool to Get You Started
Looking to start a will? We’ve partnered with FreeWill, a free online tool that guides you through the process of creating a legally valid will in 20 minutes or less. While creating your plans, you’ll be given the option to include a gift to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.

Beneficiary Designations
Not everyone wants to commit to making a gift in their wills or estates. Some prefer the increased flexibility of naming Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic as a beneficiary within:

  • IRAs and retirement plans
  • Life insurance policies
  • Donor advised funds
  • Commercial annuities

Join the Legacy of Wishes® Society
The Legacy of Wishes Society is a special group for individuals of all ages who’ve shared that Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is in their estate plans. Membership is accomplished by notifying us that we’re a current beneficiary of your estate.

Have you already included us in your plans? Please let us know so that we may formally say thanks, note your gift intentions and welcome you.

To celebrate your commitment, you may be recognized as a Legacy of Wishes member in annual reports and donor listings (name only), inspiring others to join you. We also respect any request to remain anonymous.

Thank you for your investment in life-changing wishes!

"I know full well the challenges wish families face in creating the best possible world for their ailing loved ones. It is in honor of both wish kids and their amazing families that I direct future funds to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.”
Ken, Legacy of Wishes member & past wish-granting volunteer
