Summary

The Grants and Donor Relations Coordinator for Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic reports to the Development Manager. In this role, the Grants and Donor Relations Coordinator writes compelling philanthropic content, including proposals, case statements, wish kid and wish alumni stories, stewardship materials and more, designed to inspire individuals and foundations to support our mission.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of 15-20 civic organization prospects and donors, cultivating positive relationships with grantors through effective communication, including thank-you letters and project updates.
  • Track all necessary donor data, including contact reports, actions, and proposals in Salesforce database for portfolio.
  • Develop and write 30-40 clear, concise, and compelling grant proposals that address the specific requirements of each grant application. Ensure that all proposals are written in a persuasive manner, demonstrating the organization's alignment with the grantor's mission and goals.
  • Identify and research potential grant opportunities that align with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic's mission and funding needs.
  • Support workplace giving program with Development Manager.
  • Work in collaboration with the Operations Team and/or Mission Delivery Team to acquire essential data for proposal composition and reporting.
  • Stay informed about grant guidelines, deadlines, and eligibility criteria to ensure compliance and timely submissions. Maintain tracking system of submissions and projected revenue.
  • Provide support for Board Members, Relationship Managers (including, CEO, Chief Revenue Officer, Director of Development and two Director of Giving and Engagements) for proposal preparation, gift agreements, and effective follow through.
  • Write copy, including but not limited to, stories on wish kids and/or wish alumni experiences that demonstrate the impact of giving and inspire people to support Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.
  • Attend and support donor related events. 
  • Travel to meetings and events as necessary. Work nights and weekends, as necessary, to attend meetings and events. Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to meetings or events at different locations.
Requirements
  • Microsoft Office and database management, preferably Salesforce management software.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Foundation’s policies, procedures, and processes regarding proposal submissions and execution.
  • Skill in writing and managing projects, submitting proposals, following up and tracking information to a successful finish.
  • Skilled at building lasting relationships with potential donors and volunteers.
  • Skills and experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of responsibilities and projects.
  • Ability to interface with volunteers and donors
  • Ability and experience researching information and people through different databases and writing reports.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional ethics which include approaching others in a tactful manner; reacting well under pressure; treating others with respect and consideration; accepting responsibility for own actions; following through on commitments.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities and work in a deadline driven environment.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Non-profit Management, or similar field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in relevant philanthropy writing experience particularly in grant proposals and major gift cases, gift agreements, and/or copy that demonstrates the impact of philanthropy.
