Summary

The Development Coordinator will work to enhance the midlevel donor program, focusing on expanding the donor base and increasing contributions through strategic annual giving campaigns. Additionally, the Development Coordinator will provide support for all internal events, provide reports to track goals, and conduct prospect research.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with Director of Development, manage annual giving/direct mail program:

  • Manage all facets of the midlevel donor program with the goal of growing both the donor base and the annual contribution from each donor.
  • Plan and implement annual giving campaigns, including solicitation strategies, segmentation, and multi-channel fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and execute creative approaches to increase giving levels and donor participation.
  • Work with vendors for direct mail print and online solicitation tools.
  • Focus on increasing donor retention and upgrading donor contributions.

Provide internal event support to Events Manager for:

  • Planning and execution of signature internal events (e.g., annual gala, golf tournaments, and any others), including event preparation, day-of management and post-event follow-through.
  • Auctions for events
  • Management of interns and volunteers for events.

Provide Administrative Support:

  • Prepare updates to Canva documents used for both solicitations and events.
  • Provide regular reports for Relationship Managers using Salesforce.
  • Conduct basic prospect research to support Relationship Managers and events.

Represents the chapter at fundraising, cultivation, and networking events:

  • Create and submit Marketing and Communications requests as needed, in correlation with stewardship plan and required deliverables for partners.
  • Adhere to all Make-A-Wish performance standards and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic internal controls, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of proprietary and donor information.

Direction Received

  • Work is performed with direction from the Director of Development. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment.

 

Requirements
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to meetings or events across the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, how to steward donors and the courage to make the "ask."
  • Knowledge of and experience with internet-based research.
  • Skill in word processing, desktop publishing and spreadsheets.
  • Skill in customer service.
  • Skill in budgeting and donor/member relationship management.
  • Skill in organization, administration, project management and communication.
  • Ability to support multiple team members and manage time appropriately.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in day-to-day priorities.
  • Ability to solve problems and think strategically and tactically about opportunities to raise funds, balance competing priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to research and identify new gift opportunities as well as successfully complete proposals and applications on time.
  • Ability to demonstrate an orientation to both details and the "big picture."
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level or professional demeanor; communicate and work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers and consultants to build lasting relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion and humor necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
Education & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Non-profit Management, or similar field OR equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of development, fundraising experience.
  • Computer/System Skills: Microsoft Office Suite. Salesforce, or other database management software. Canva skills. Wealth screening engines like iWave and Windfall.
