Wish Granted: Kylie’s Backyard Oasis Gives Her Hope
Kylie was your average pre-teen. She played volleyball, participated in track and spent a lot of time outside running around.
Then her knee started to swell. The swelling got so bad, her parents took her to the doctor. Kylie had a tumor in her knee — she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of 12.
In the midst of fighting cancer, a global pandemic hit and everyone began to quarantine. Since Kylie is currently in treatment for cancer, she is more isolated than ever.
Now, she’s still an average pre-teen, but her life looks different. She goes to school online. She cooks with her mom. Sometimes, she’ll ride around in the car with her dad. But, she hasn’t been able to see her friends.
Kylie is very close with her family and credits them with the inner strength to get through her hardest days. Some days are really tough, but Kylie says, “If you keep your attitude positive, it’s just going to help you get through your day.”

Being unable to travel, Kylie wishes for something close to home. She wishes for a backyard makeover, so she has a space to spend quality time with her family and safely see her friends.
Kylie envisions a backyard oasis — featuring an outdoor fire pit (for s’mores, of course), a waterfall, comfy seating and a game area — to make staying home more fun. She says she wants a place where her family can relax and spend time together. And for her, “It’ll help me to know that I have a nice, safe place outside… to look at maybe the stars at night or to look at the sun and the clouds.”
Donors, volunteers and other community members made her vision a reality and transformed Kylie’s backyard … and her life. Thanks to you, Kylie has hope again.

Thousands of other children like Kylie are waiting for hope. You can help make their wishes come true today.
