Cowboy for a Day, Memories for a Lifetime

Cowboy for a Day, Memories for a Lifetime

Liam loves LEGO and water parks. He plays sports like golf, football, and baseball. He enjoys going to the mountains and to the lake with his parents and friends. During his good days, he seemed like any other kid, happy and full of life. However, Liam was born with kidney disease, and on his bad days, he often struggled to keep up with his peers.

In January 2026, Liam underwent a kidney transplant in Seattle. The kidney was donated by a pastor from Hayden, Idaho, who shared with the Coeur d’Alene Press that “the Lord told me to check to see if I was a match. If I was a match, that would be confirmation that I was supposed to do this.”

"Once he got the surgery and we were released to come home from Seattle, it felt like a weight had been lifted off our shoulders," Daniel, Liam's dad, told the CDA Press. "It's been a roller coaster the last 12 years."

Over the last year, Liam learned that he was getting a wish, and he was asked to be "Cowboy for a Day" at the North Idaho State Fair and represent Make-A-Wish® Idaho there.

"We got to ride behind a couple of large Clydesdale horses in a beautiful wagon. We were driven around the rodeo arena. While entering the arena the announcer talked about the Make-A-Wish program, Liam, and his transplant and then announced he would be going to LEGOLAND in Florida," his mom, Temper, told Make-A-Wish Idaho. The family would leave the next day.

Before the fair, his mother told Liam that he and his brother were going to Montana for the weekend, so they needed to pack. When it hit Liam that he was going to Florida for LEGOLAND, "he was so excited and putting his hands on his head, doing the mind-blown motion," his mom wrote. "He kept saying, 'Wow! This is really cool! I didn't think it would happen for another year.' He was in disbelief until we actually got on the plane."

At LEGOLAND, he saw incredible LEGO creations. At Universal Studios, he experienced the excitement of riding roller coasters, like the Incredible Hulk Coaster. His adventure also included something that fits his love of the outdoors perfectly: fishing.

While at Siesta Beach, Liam cast a line and reeled in a big catch of his own. His favorite parts of the wish trip included staying at the hotel because everything was made out of LEGO and getting to have a VIP experience with a LEGO Master who demonstrated to everyone how to do their very own LEGO piece. He also showed Liam and his family how all the LEGO pieces in the park are made.

"At 12 years old, Liam is at an age where childhood memories are becoming lifelong stories. Seeing favorite characters come to life, experiencing thrilling rides, exploring incredible worlds, and simply having the freedom to laugh, dream, and be a kid can make a lasting impact on his heart," his mom wrote.
