At just 10 years old, Brian’s childhood changed when he was diagnosed with leukemia. School, basketball, and time with friends were replaced by months of treatment and hospital stays. During that difficult chapter, his family was introduced to Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley.

When it came time to choose his wish, Brian chose to go to the Walt Disney World Resort, knowing it would be an experience his entire family could share. From staying at Give Kids the World Village to exploring the theme parks and watching fireworks at Epcot, the trip gave his family something they desperately needed: time together filled with joy, excitement, and memories that Brian still treasures more than two decades later.

But his wish journey didn’t end when the trip was over.

Brian and his mother, Donna, stayed connected to Make-A-Wish, volunteering, attending events, and giving back to other wish families. Brian was also part of the chapter’s early Wish Alumni efforts, helping create opportunities for former wish kids to remain connected to the mission long after their wishes were granted.

Looking back, Brian believes both his medical journey and his wish helped shape the perspective he carries today.

“As Wish Alumni, you carry a different set of wisdom, appreciation, and mindset… And Make-A-Wish is a part of that, giving you that piece to look forward to.”

For Brian, a wish that began with a trip to Disney World became something much bigger: a lifetime of memories, gratitude, connection, and giving back. As we celebrate 40 Years of Wishes, his story is a powerful reminder that the impact of a wish can last long after the wish itself.
