How a Wish Kid Helped Healthcare Workers

Sam's wish will surprise you! See how his wish changed the lives of healthcare workers.

Sam was your typical fun-loving teenager. But when he broke his leg on a ski trip, everything changed. At the hospital, the x-ray revealed something concerning. Sam was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and spent the next five months in the hospital receiving chemotherapy. As you can imagine, this experience was terrifying for the 15-year-old and his family. Thankfully now, Sam is in remission. But he still had a wish. Sam wished to give back to healthcare workers on the front lines during the pandemic, especially the ones who have been taking care of him during treatment.

He had the idea of creating Sam’s Wish Kits, filled with items for re-entry into their homes after a shift, hard-to-find personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, gift cards and more. He asked the community for help, and they did not disappoint! Generous friends and strangers helped Sam put together more than 120 Wish Kits for healthcare workers and more than 100 mini kits. In response, Sam was ecstatic, “I could never have imagined how many people would help out to honor our healthcare workers. I am so glad that we were able to exceed the goal of 100 kits and I hope these items will be helpful to each person who receives one.” When you give to Make-A-Wish, you can change more lives by making wishes like Sam’s come true.
