Dominic's Night of Gratitude

Dominic Hosts a Night of Gratitude and Finds His Voice

Dominic wished for something beyond himself: an awards ceremony for his supporters.

It is said that the act of gratitude helps us make sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.

For Dominic, a 14-year-old boy who was diagnosed with bone cancer, gratitude does all of this and more as it lives in his heart as well as his actions.

When Make-A-Wish® approached Dominic about his wish, he reflected on his journey through his cancer diagnosis and treatment. He thought of the nurses who made him smile during his chemotherapy treatments. The doctors who lent a compassionate ear and gave encouraging words right when he needed it. His friends who made him feel like a regular teenager and his family who held his hand through it all.

What did Dominic wish for? He wished to celebrate this group of supporters and champions who helped him during his journey to recovery. He wanted to honor and thank those in a formal, Oscar-inspired awards ceremony, an evening focused on love, kindness, courage and hope.

Tonight, he was shining bright and so confident in himself.

It was a celebration that helped Dominic make sense of his diagnosis, have peace with his recovery and the confidence to take on the future. For the attendees it was an evening that left them inspired and renewed.

“I’m the happiest person ever in the entire universe,” said Dominic at the end of his wish event.
