Two weeks before his 16th birthday, Bill is holding onto a dream he has carried for years. It is a dream he described best in his own words. 

“For many years my greatest wish has been to stay in a Swiss chalet in Zermatt, Switzerland with my family.” 

Bill lives with a rare genetic condition that affects his skin and internal organs, including his eyes, mouth, throat, and digestive tract. Because it is progressive and heat sensitive, temperatures above 74 degrees can be dangerous for him. Daily life requires careful planning, constant medical care, and extraordinary resilience. 

Still, his imagination has always traveled freely. 

“Ever since I was young, I’ve had a deep desire to travel,” he wrote. “Growing up, my mom read me books and stories about other places and continents, sparking my passion for travel and getting to experience different countries and cultures.” 

“I’ve read that Zermatt has a perfect view of the mountains and even blocks the usage of cars to reduce pollution and preserve the view.” 

And like any traveler planning a meaningful journey, he is already looking forward to the experience of being there in every sense. 

“I also can’t wait to eat at Zermatt’s restaurants and sample the delicious Swiss cuisine — rosti, raclette, and Swiss chocolate.” 

“Thank you all so much for making my dream a reality,” he wrote, holding onto hope for the day it finally happens. 

Bill was referred to Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas in 2023 by his doctor who has cared for him since he was a baby.

Today, his wish is still waiting. 

For wish mom Anim, this wish represents more than travel. It is a chance to step away from the profound challenges he has faced throughout his life and create new joyful memories. As he prepares to turn 16 this month, Bill’s family is celebrating a milestone they once were not sure he would reach and a young man whose courage, kindness, and gratitude inspire everyone around him. 

Right now, Bill is waiting for his wish.
