Wish Kid Solomon holding a basketball on his new basketball court

Solomon's Slam Dunk Wish

For wish kid Solomon, basketball is more than just a sport. Making varsity his freshman year of high school, he set his sights on becoming a college athlete. But in December of 2019, Solomon’s priorities shifted. He was diagnosed with cancer and immediately went into surgery to get the tumor removed from his neck. He endured 7 rounds of chemotherapy and 32 radiation treatments.

But like a true pro, Solomon always keeps his head in the game. Although he worried he'll never be able to compete on a high level again, his wish for a backyard basketball court gives him the chance to develop his skills and ultimately accomplish his dream.
“This is something we’ve always wanted to do for Solomon but it’s always been beyond our financial means,” says Stephen, Solomon’s dad. “This wish will give him the resource to see where his passion will take him."

We granted Solomon's wish on #WorldWishDay, and as a surprise to everyone, the head coach of Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio drove to Austin to watch Solomon play. And although it was a rainy day, the joy that Solomon and his family felt kept the celebration bright.

Thanks to a local donor, Sport Court Austin, Rock Solid Concrete, US Concrete, and Dr. Dish for making the wish come true. And thank you to the Austin Spurs, San Antonio Spurs, Ballogy, and Our Lady of the Lake University for contributing some wonderful surprises and enhancements to make the reveal so memorable.

This wish will also bring his family closer. The time spent commuting every day to the gym will be replaced with quality time. “I look forward to spending our evenings together out on the court and watching my son pursue his passion,” says Stephen. “We have always dreamed of doing something like this for him. I’m profoundly grateful for Make-A-Wish.”
