Paisley’s Wish for Music Without Limits

Today, Paisley is a happy, vibrant 10-year-old, but that hasn’t always been the case. Diagnosed with an endocrine disorder as an infant, the condition left her legally blind and dependent on a demanding daily regimen of medications to keep her hormones in balance.

Despite these challenges, Paisley has persevered. She reads braille, excels in school, plays the piano and cello, and even writes her own songs. Her family often finds her at their old piano, its keys slightly out of tune, playing her favorite melodies and imagining a world without limits.

Music is her passion, but one barrier kept her from reaching her full potential: She couldn’t read braille sheet music.

When asked about her heartfelt wish, Paisley didn’t hesitate. She wished for a piano and braille music lessons – so she could finally learn to read and play music. "I just love music,” Paisley said. “It just makes me feel good inside.”

Paisley eagerly awaited her wish, and finally, the day arrived! Paisley was surprised with a polished walnut piano, stacks of braille lesson books and three personalized sessions with a fellow musician, who is also blind, to guide Paisley through the materials. She even received piano-themed clothing and accessories – because every musician deserves a little flair.

As the new piano was rolled into her living room, Paisley grinned from ear-to-ear. “I am so excited,” Paisley said. “I can’t wait to hear how it sounds. I can’t wait to feel it.”

Then, with her family watching, she ran her fingers over the smooth keys. And slowly, with newfound confidence from her wish, she played her most cherished songs.
