For children facing critical illnesses, a wish can mean much more than a special trip or unforgettable experience. It can provide hope, strength, joy, and a chance to simply be a kid again.

Sierra Waggoner sat down with Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas CEO Andrea Taurins, wish kid Hunter, and his grandmother Darla Slate to discuss the organization's Summer of Wishes campaign and the life-changing impact a wish can have on a family.

More than 350 community supporters, donors, and sponsors from across the region gathered for the Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas’ 2026 Wish Night Gala at The Downtown Austin Marriott. The event raised $570,000 to help grant 50 life-changing wishes for local children facing critical illnesses. The night highlighted the power of a community united around bringing hope, joy, and strength to wish kids and their families.

At just two years old, Hunter was diagnosed with leukemia. Years of treatment followed, but through it all, he never stopped dreaming.

Henry thought he getting a simple tour of The Rock at La Cantera, the practice facility of the San Antonio Spurs. Instead, he walked into the biggest surprise of his life — one orchestrated by the Spurs and his hero, Tim Duncan.

The young Spurs fan turned the corner was greeted by the five-time NBA champion. From there, he got a tour of the practice facility, smiling ear-to-ear while soaking it all in. He got to shoot baskets on the Spurs practice court, sit at his host’s table in the training area, and even check out the pool.

Kamari, 14, has spent much of her life in and out of hospitals battling serious medical conditions, including childhood cancer. During her journey, her social worker referred her to Make-A-Wish, where she shared her heartfelt wish—to celebrate her birthday at Disney World with her family.

This summer, that wish came true. Kamari and her family traveled to Orlando, where she experienced the magic of Disney alongside the people she loves most.

Jordan Spieth missed the fairway left at the opening hole of Wednesday’s WM Phoenix Open pro-am, his ball settling amidst the desert tufts. His second shot tracked on-line but flew just over the green, setting up a slippery downhill chip shot. Just 20 minutes into the round, it was an ample dose of the Jordan Spieth Experience for fans in attendance at TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course, including 15-year-old Sonny Sciantarelli.
