Hunter's Summer is Bright

Hunter's Summer is Bright

For Hunter, the adventure of a lifetime began long before he stepped into the water with a dolphin.

After being diagnosed with leukemia at just two years old, Hunter spent years undergoing treatment. This summer, he is thriving, playing baseball and looking forward to second grade. When it came time to choose his wish, he was ready. Hunter loves the water and has always been fascinated by dolphins, making a trip to Discovery Cove a wish to remember.

In the weeks leading up to his trip, Hunter was celebrated with a special wish send-off hosted by Covert Bee Cave, where family, friends, and community members came together to cheer him on before his big adventure.

Then came the moment he had been dreaming about: swimming with dolphins at Discovery Cove. For Hunter and his family, it was the highlight of a wish journey filled with unforgettable experiences. From exploring Cocoa Beach to spending quality time together and trying new activities each day, the trip offered something that had been difficult to find during years of treatment: the chance to simply be a kid.

"It was like Christmas in March for Hunter," his mom, Krista, shared. "So many gifts and so many distractions. He was able to just be a kid and have FUN every moment of every day."

The wish provided more than a memorable vacation. It gave Hunter and his family a break from the stress and uncertainty that often accompany a critical illness. Every day was filled with new adventures, laughter, and opportunities to focus on joy instead of medical appointments and treatments.

Krista shared that the power of a wish kept Hunter's mind "in the FUN zone" and away from thoughts of illness. Anticipating the trip brought excitement and relaxation for the entire family, and the memories have continued long after they returned home.

"We are all still so enchanted with our trip," Krista said. "We can't stop looking at pictures and videos and sharing with friends and family how very special the Make-A-Wish trip turned out to be."

For Hunter, swimming with dolphins was a dream come true. "Thank you for my Make-A-Wish trip," he exclaimed, an expression of gratitude that captures the lasting impact of a wish.
