Dominic, 17, is one of those wish kids. Dominic lives with a gastrointestinal disorder that has no cure. His wish was to visit Italy, which he says is “very dear to my heart because of my grandmother and the family living there that I rarely see.” His grandmother, who spent her childhood there before moving to the U.S., was able to join Dominic and his family for the wish. “It made me happy to hear her speaking Italian and enjoying herself to the fullest.” Together, they visited with their Italian relatives, toured the Amalfi coast and visited Pompeii.
“The tour along the Amalfi Coast was beautiful--huge cliffs, lined with pretty flowers leading down to vibrant blue waters. The view from atop the Monte Solaro chair lift was one of, if not the most, spectacular views I have ever seen. It reminded me of a movie on a remote island, particularly Pirates of the Caribbean which is one of my favorite movies.” Pompeii also left a big impression on him, “Pompeii was quite the sight. It humbled me to see these structures that have survived two thousand years and are there for us to visit and learn.”
During his wish trip, Dominic realized it had been exactly a year since his first surgery and he says, “I could not have thought of a better place to be spending the anniversary.”
