Meet Serenity Mitchell: Spreading the Hope of Wishes

At the heart of every wish is a volunteer who helps transform hope into something real — a wish granted.

Serenity Mitchell is one of those volunteers. She is someone who listens, celebrates, and walks beside a family through every phase of the wish journey. With warmth, creativity, and enthusiasm, she brings wishes to life while mentoring new volunteers along the way.

Since 2022, Serenity has granted 12 wishes, is working on 11 more, and has supported countless wish reveals, airport send-offs, and celebrations.

Once I fell in love with wish granting and the Make-A-Wish mission, I didn’t want to leave.

“Once I fell in love with wish granting and the Make-A-Wish mission, I didn’t want to leave,” she said.

What makes her stand out isn’t the number of wishes she’s been part of — it’s the way she approaches each wish with intention.

Her very first wish, a shopping spree, is a reminder of why she wanted to join the mission.

“I remember I felt like a genie, like a fairy godmother all day,” she said. “I thought, this is really the best job ever!”

From there, Serenity leaned into the part of the journey she loves most: building relationships.

She loves staying with families through their wish journey — from their first conversation through the finale of their wish, ensuring they feel supported, understood, and celebrated.

“Being there from the beginning creates trust,” she said. “Seeing a wish from start to finish is the most fulfilling feeling, because it’s like seeing all your work from the beginning to end payoff.”

Through that closeness, she sees the deeper impact of wishes and how they lift families during challenging times.

“Wishes give kids a sense of joy, a sense of just laughter and a sense of excitement,” she said. “As volunteers, we feed off of that excitement, too.”

Among her many experiences, one family remains especially meaningful to her.

“I granted a wish for a gaming shopping spree, and two of their siblings’ wishes too,” Serenity said. “I’ve known this family for two years now, and I’ve granted three of their kids’ wishes.”

Serenity also mentors new volunteers and helps them find confidence in the process.

Her advice is encouraging, especially to those questioning whether they have the time or experience to help. “You can make time for things that you’re really passionate about,” she said. “If you love to give back and you really want to make a difference, you can make time.”

And for anyone who feels unsure or nervous about getting started, she offers gentle encouragement.

Trust your gut and know you’re going to make a difference, and why wouldn’t you want to do that?
