Nolan's Wish

Seven-year-old Nolan Erwin from Rutland, Vermont, has spent a good portion of his life in doctor’s offices and hospital rooms. When Nolan isn’t at the doctor’s or the hospital, what he loves more than anything is to be outdoors with his family.

Until recently, however, his bulky wheelchair made accessing his hilly backyard difficult, and living on a busy road meant that family walks were less than ideal. When the family was contacted by Make-A-Wish Vermont, it was clear what would make the biggest difference for Nolan—a deck off the back of the house so he could spend time with his siblings and parents outdoors.

Local Businesses Work Overtime to Make Nolan’s Wish Come True

Contractors and building supplies have perhaps never been trickier to come by, but when local businesses VMS Construction and rk Miles heard about Nolan and his wish, there was no stopping them.

The two businesses worked together, donating all the supplies and labor necessary, working non-stop, to make sure Nolan’s deck got built as soon as possible and he could start living his best life now.

They built Nolan’s deck from concept to completion in just ten days - with two days of active construction.

Ringing in Independence Day with Some Freedom to Roll

Nolan and his family recently held an Independence Day party out on the deck, to celebrate Nolan's new ability to enjoy his backyard from the comfort and safety of his new deck.

Thank you to everyone who went to great lengths to quickly grant this wish, including Volunteer Wish Granters Ruth Brown and Joe Lorman, with a big assist from Make-A-Wish Board Member and Wish Granter Dave Wolk, and of course rk Miles, for donating all of the materials, and VMS Contruction, who donated all of their time and expertise
