Lights, camera … Happy Birthday!
Thirteen-year-old Wish Kid Kamden already has a pretty good idea of what he wants to do when he grows up. An aspiring filmmaker and music lover (with a particular fondness for the Beatles) Kamden has already written and produced a short film in a class he attended. So, when Kamden wished for film equipment (and coincidentally had a birthday coming up) Wish Granters Judy Moulton, Candy Moot, and the community of Island Pond, VT, jumped into action to throw Kamden a combination surprise birthday party and wish reveal all in one!
To reflect Kamden’s passion for filmmaking, a Hollywood-themed party was planned, complete with a star-lined red carpet and a VIP backdrop for photo ops. A few local friends dressed up as The Beatles and lip-synced their classics. And as Kamden had expressed interest in world-renowned (and YouTube famous) Marco the Magician during his Wish Discovery, Marco himself magically appeared at the party, delivering a stellar performance to the laughter and amazement of all in attendance. And that brings us to the partygoers. As Kamden is homeschooled, his circle of friends is small, but with the help and generosity of the Brighton School, and a handful of their seventh and eighth graders, Kamden’s party at the American Legion was full of friendly faces eager to wish him a happy big thirteen!
It was a wonderful, albeit slightly overwhelming experience for Kamden, but there was one partygoer who helped ease Kamden’s nerves on his big day, and that was Wish Dog Porter. A black Labrador, who has worked as a service animal for the last four years, Porter focused his calming energy on Kamden, which helped him relax during the excitement of the day.
During the festivities, Kamden received the filmmaking equipment he wished for (and a director’s chair, of course) to continue to pursue his passion. And he even got a special message from local news anchor and executive producer Darron Perron of WCAX, who invited Kamden to visit the studio for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how news stories get produced and put on the air—an awesome opportunity for a kid like Kamden.
Kamden’s mom reached out to us with an update after the big day and told us, “Kam had a wonderful birthday. This has been a phenomenal experience that we will never forget and are beyond grateful to have been a part of. Kam even asked Judy if he could attend her future Make-A-Wish reveal parties to document the day of other Wish Kids and their families! He knows his day was extremely special and he wants to do whatever he can to pass the blessing on in his very own special way.”
Kamden’s a true filmmaker with an eye for helping others, and we wish him the best on his future filmmaking endeavors. We want to thank Judy Moulton, Candy Moot, the community of Island Pond, VT, American Legion Brighton Post 80, Brighton Elementary School, and all our supporters and donors for helping make Kamden’s birthday wish come true.
