Wish Granting Volunteer Dr. Phillips
When he was 11 years old, he had the opportunity to meet Jeremy Miller from Growing Pains, an experience that he still cherishes today. He and Miller later co-authored a book titled "When I Wished Upon a Star". Dr. Phillips, a graduate of Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans, went on to become a pediatric cardiologist, fulfilling a dream he had since kindergarten.Â
When asked about his wish and volunteer experience, he shared:
"My wish was a turning point in my life. Before it, I struggled in school—I was tested for special education in kindergarten and even failed first grade. But after my wish, I began to believe anything was possible. I worked harder, knowing that I wanted to become a pediatric cardiologist, and eventually became a straight-A student. Becoming a wish granter was a full-circle moment, allowing me to give hope to other children facing serious challenges. Volunteering with Make-A-Wish has been incredibly rewarding for me because it allows me to be part of a child's moment of pure joy and hope. There’s something truly magical about seeing a child light up when their dream becomes reality—whether it's meeting a hero, going to a special event, or creating a unique experience that brings them happiness during a tough time. It’s not just about the wish itself; it's about the transformation that happens when these children realize that people care enough to make something extraordinary happen for them."
We are deeply grateful for Dr. Phillips unwavering commitment to making wishes come true. His dedication to our mission and the joy he brings to so many children is truly inspiring!Â
