At the time, Angie had just retired from teaching and had shared in her volunteer application that she “experienced the love and enthusiasm” shown to her little friend, Elizabeth Stanley as she battled childhood cancer. Elizabeth is a dear family friend of Angie and her family.
Coupled with her enthusiasm for giving, and her professional knowledge of education, Angie has supported our foundation in every volunteer role we have. She has personally fundraised through Bake-A-Wish and other peer-to-peer initiatives. She has been an annual volunteer at the Friends for Wishes BBQ cookoff event. Angie has even traveled to Covington, Louisiana with her husband to decorate a bedroom for a wish child they had only known virtually until the day of her wish. She has also spent hours getting to know a wish child who wished to “learn to read,” and even helped find a tutor that would be best matched for the child’s wish to come true.
Angie’s love for Make-A-Wish is unmatched, even sharing all Make-A-Wish tidbits in her family Christmas card each year.
“What I love most about volunteering with Make-A-Wish is how I get to bring joy and happiness to children and families. As a retired educator, I truly love planning and realizing a child’s wish. It’s not just me granting a child’s wish though. My husband, Dave and I sometimes bring friends and businesses into the Make-A-Wish community. We are always amazed how they contribute. It truly is the whole Make-A-Wish community coming together to bring hope and inspiration to children and their families who have endured difficult times. Dave and I have developed some wonderful experiences with our Wish families, from send-off celebrations, room makeovers, play equipment, computers to shopping sprees and more! Every wish and family give us a chance to be creative and share their joy.”
