2026 Wish Ball Highlights

Wishes Coming True: Hope Takes Center Stage at 2026 Make-A-Wish Gala

Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana hosted its annual Wish Ball, this year themed, Miracles Among Magnolias, at The Post Oak Hotel on Friday, April 10, welcoming more than 700 guests for an unforgettable evening.

Chairs Kristin and Barry Palmer infused the gala with their Louisiana roots, creating a vibrant theme that beautifully blended Gulf Coast charm with New Orleans flair—all in support of granting wishes for children facing critical illnesses.

The evening’s inaugural presenting sponsor was Kaneka, with longtime supporter Valero recognized as honoree. The event was a tremendous success, raising nearly $1.8 million to help make life-changing wishes come true. Melissa Wilson, whose son was diagnosed 13 years ago with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, once again served as emcee, bringing heartfelt passion to the program.

The evening transitioned into the ballroom with a lively second line band leading the way, setting a celebratory tone, followed by a New Orleans-inspired menu created by the team at the Post Oak.

Throughout the night, wish children shared powerful stories about the impact of their wishes and how those experiences shaped their journeys. The program featured Wish Kid Fitz, who brought his message of positivity during his treatment journey to Wish Ball guests. He encouraged guests to “stay activated” to help other wish kids in the area.  Guests also honored Wish Alumnus Owen Gray, who was recognized as the first Monty Starblazer Award winner locally, representing the impact Owen’s wish has carried with him into adulthood.  After his emotional and passionate remarks, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Johnny Bravo energized the crowd during the appeal, inviting Wish Kid Fitz to assist.  The appeal raised more than $450,000 in under 10 minutes.  The live auction had several competitive bidders in the room vying for the unique packages.  A Champagne Parade with Le Chemin du Roi bottles brought to winning bidders made for even more excitement.  Exclusive auction packages kept paddles raised, including a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from Kern Studios to for 20 guests to ride with the legendary Krewe of Orpheus during Mardi Gras, a dinner at Frances and Tony Buzbee’s home with a meal prepared by acclaimed New Orleans Chef Eric Cook, and a luxury getaway to the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles featuring private helicopter transportation. The celebration continued late into the night with Party in the City, as guests filled the dance floor in support of the cause.

We hope you will join us for our next Wish Ball on April 9, 2027, at the Post Oak Hotel for another night of Make-A-Wish magic.
