William’s Community Blood Drive
During chemotherapy treatments for leukemia, wish kid William realized how vital blood donations are to kids with critical illnesses like him.
William’s wish to give his community a blood drive sparked a movement, bringing William joy and his entire community renewed hope.
William’s Community Blood Drive, an October-long drive at his local blood center in southern Ohio, was so successful it was extended through the end of 2022. His wish led to a record 1,000+ blood donations (which is enough to impact more than 3,000 lives!), compared to a typical monthly blood drive which would bring in around 200 blood donations.
The impact of William’s selfless wish was felt across our chapter’s three states. People in Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana states, donated blood in his honor, and his story was shared by television stations from Orlando, Florida, to Sacramento, California. William was even honored as a torchbearer in a local parade for, “being a light of hope in the community.
“My wish is a wish that keeps on giving and has provided once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for me. Hopefully, those who donate will keep on donating!” said William.
