OUR 20,000TH WISH

Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana is proud to have granted our 20,000th wish for 5-year-old Mya on May 20, 2023. Mya's wish was to meet and ride a unicorn. And not just any unicorn, her unicorn, Clover.

Born with a nervous system disorder, Mya uses a wheelchair. Mya's parents, Elias and Rebecca, never thought they would get to see their daughter ride a horse, much less a unicorn.

“They didn’t even think she would see two years old,” recalled Mya’s mom, Rebecca. “It was devastating for me because we thought everything was okay.”

On World Wish Day 2023 (April 29), Make-A-Wish OKI launched a tri-state “Find Clover” campaign. People from across our chapter and the country submitted unicorn sightings and “clues” they “found” left behind by Clover. We received dozens of submissions we shared with Mya and her family leading up to the wish.

I don’t doubt anything she’ll ever do.

Mya received a princess’ welcome at Stillwater Equestrian Center in Woodburn, Indiana, on the day her wish came true. When Mya arrived at the farm, she went on a scavenger hunt to find clues left by Clover, exclaiming, “Clover!? Where are you?” along the way. Finally, Mya met her unicorn!

“When she saw Clover, she lit up,” said Elias. Rebecca added, “I always watch her facial expressions because when she’s really excited, she kind of squeaks and bunches up…she was very happy!”

After getting to know Clover, Mya rode her unicorn, was surprised with unicorn-themed gifts, and enjoyed a princess picnic with her family and friends.

Mya is proof that with a wish, anything is possible and that unicorns really do exist!
